The type is decided by the opening and the space around it, not by taste. Sectional doors lift the leaf up under the ceiling and take nothing in front of the garage. Swing gates need room for the leaves to sweep. Cantilever gates roll aside along the fence - the usual choice for a yard entrance with no room to swing. Suspended sliding gates run the leaf along the wall and mostly go on workshops and warehouses.
The leaf is essentially the same across all types - a sandwich panel of 0.45 mm steel filled with polyurethane foam, thermally close to a 55 cm brick wall. The front and back sheets are not joined, so the panel has no cold bridge. The coating is six layers, corrosion class RC3.
With gates the leaf matters less than the automation and the installation. The motor must match the leaf's weight and width with margin, otherwise it runs at its limit and wears out fast. That is why we calculate it at the measurement rather than by eye.
Finger-trap protection is fitted on every model, and sectional doors also carry a spring-break catch. That is standard specification, not a paid extra.
One constraint worth knowing in advance: a cantilever gate needs clear space along the fence roughly equal to the driveway width plus an allowance for the counterweight. Without that space, swing or sectional designs are the way to go.

Frequently asked questions
How much space does a sliding gate need?
You need a clear stretch along the fence roughly equal to the driveway width plus an allowance for the counterweight: for a 4 m driveway that is about 6 m along the fence. In a narrow yard, swing or sectional designs are more practical.
Which gate suits a garage with a low ceiling?
Sectional, but with a low-headroom kit: the shaft moves back and the leaf runs almost flush with the ceiling. It is settled at the measurement - we measure from the top of the opening to the ceiling and say which lift type fits.
Can a wicket door be built into the gate?
Yes, and it is a common choice: walking through a wicket beats raising the whole leaf every time. The threshold is 25 mm for openings to 3500 mm and a reinforced 65 mm to 6000 mm. For a sloped or snowy driveway there is a 160 mm delta profile.
How well do the gates hold heat?
A 40 mm panel filled with polyurethane foam is roughly equal to a 55 cm brick wall. The front and back steel sheets are not joined, so there is no cold bridge - for a heated garage or workshop that is the parameter that matters.
How many cycles will the gates take?
The mechanism is rated from 20,000 cycles - many years for a private garage. For a warehouse or service centre where the gate runs dozens of times a day we use the industrial series with a reinforced profile, built for that intensity.
Can existing gates be automated?
Often yes. The specialist checks the posts, hinges and leaf: if the structure is true and does not sag, a motor can be fitted. If the gate is already skewed, automation will not fix that - it will only speed up the wear.
Does the automation work in winter?
Yes, the motors are rated for sub-zero temperatures. The real winter issue is different - ice building up under a sliding gate's leaf, so the rail needs clearing.
